The metatranscriptome is a collection of RNAs (transcripts) of all microorganisms in a specific period of time and in a specific environment. Through metatranscriptomics sequencing, information on the transcriptomes of culturable and non-culturable microorganisms in the environment can be directly obtained to study the composition, active transcripts, and active functions of active species in microbial communities in a specific habitat at a specific time and space.
