Targeted metabolomics is the detection of absolute levels of targeted metabolites in samples. Compared with whole metabolomic analysis, targeted metabolomics is characterized by high specificity, high sensitivity and accurate quantification. On the one hand, as an extension of the whole metabolome, the targeted metabolome can provide powerful support for the subsequent in-depth research and development of metabolic molecular markers. On the other hand, the accurate quantitative analysis of certain metabolites can also be combined with other experimental data to reveal the relevant molecular biological mechanisms.
